Fruit, mother nature’s answer to cake enough said. In fact even cake does not do this natural wonder justice. It’s sweet, healthy and does not require preheating an oven, what more could you ask for?
Yet it astounds me to see every so often an article or a headline painting all types of sugar as one (it’s not, fruit sugar is fructose and regular sugar is sucrose, biiig difference) and stating that fruit isn’t healthy or rather, one should ration their daily fruit allowance. Some articles even claim sugar from fruit to be a cause of cancer! Absolutely absurd, I know.
Contrary to these fear mongeringl, shock factor story producing companies say, fruit (along with veg and a balance of the three macronutrients) is the answer to all life’s problems. And here’s why.
Fruit is high in fibre which aided digestion. The copious amounts of fibre also fill you up. They’re full of micronutrients, your daily dose of vitamins and ions to keep you and your ion channels at their optimum.
It’s the best kind of “dessert” to have and all the nay sayers that day it’s got sugar in it. Fructose is good for you. Your brain thrives off sugar (glucose) and many foods contain hidden sugars, yet we do not demonise those. All your healthy grains and breads contain sugar, root vegetables are higher in sugar than others, dairy contains sugar. Healthy, natural, unprocessed, unrefined sugar is all around us and for good reason it is what our brains and bodies thrive off alongside all the other essential macronutrients.
Fruit kebabs are a great idea for a gathering as a healthy dessert option/centre piece or even just for breakfast (because they look pretty). I recently made these with a friend for a gathering we were having and even the process of making the 30 odd skewers was a fun social activity. We then speared a watermelon with them and the outcome was great. Everyone ate their fruit and enjoyed the aesthetic of the centre piece.
Thanks for reading now go eat some fruit!
