Juice refreshing, full of vitamins and a child favourite. But there’s actually so much more to juice.
Firstly, juice is pressed fruit or vegetables of course. But some people avoid juice at it is supposedly “empty calories”. This is because it is essentially vitamin liquid without the benefits of the fibre which aids in digestion and promotes a healthy gut. If your cutting calories it’s probably easier to just avoid juice. However, if this isn’t an issue for you then go ahead and DRINK THAT JUICE. But wait! Before you start glugging that sweet liquid there’s some info you need to know that you’ve probably not been informed of. Namely, NOT ALL JUICE IS MADE EQUAL.
There are two types of juice (and I’m not talking about fruit or veg flavour) there’s Cold pressed and regular juice.
Cold pressed juice is made by slowly grinding, pressing and squeezing the fruit or veg. Minimal heat is involved and thus leaving a more nutritious and sometimes more flavoursome juice in contrast to regular juice.
Cold pressed juice is healthier than regular pressed juice because cold pressed juice is produced in a way where not that much heat is required to extract the juice from the fruit/veg and thus keeping more nutrients intact as heat degrades proteins within cells (and pretty much all living things are made of cells).
This has been shown by various tests on both types of juice. Tests also show nutrients in cold–pressed juice break down much more slowly in comparison to regular juice, leaving you with a more nutritious juice after the same period of refrigeration/preparation.Additionally, research has shown that the nutrients in cold-pressed juice break down much more slowly in comparison to regular juice, leaving you with a more nutritious juice.
Here you can see actual evidence of higher levels of vitamins in cold pressed juice. As I was reading on this topic I found an article which linked to this report on juices tested in a lab and this is just one of many examples of the sheer difference in the amount of nutrients in cold pressed versus regular juice https://3uv7fp3gs8j31lglkd37386l-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Cold-pressed-vs-centrifuge-shelf-life-test.pdf
So basically, you best option is either make your own juice, buy cold pressed or avoid juice and just drink water and get your nutrients through eating fruit as opposed to juicing. Cold pressed juice is more expensive so if you can afford it/prioritise it and if you really enjoy juice, then get cold pressed. If not make your own or just drink water and save yourself all the hassle.
Thanks for reading and I hope you found this helpful and useful.
