I was treated terribly yesterday.
I was on a call regarding a job opportunity.
She asked me about my motivation and my ideas.
Her reaction every time I spoke was as if she had just smelt something awful look.
She undermined and rebutted all my opinions (and not in a constructive way).
It just came across as she had closed herself off to the idea of me.
Not to mention (though things happen) she was late to the call and left and returned half way through, she was definitely gatekeeping the opportunity.
She stated she would only inform me more about the opportunity after I had changed my cv to what she wanted
She was extremely condescending, so much so that I teared up at one point and pretended it was my fault and she didn’t even acknowledge it, It was almost as if she enjoyed it.
I was questioning myself all of today and yesterday, thinking is the issue me, am I just being too sensitive.
But I first have to recognise that my emotions are valid and it is her job to be polite and professional and as a fellow human empathetic and sensitive.
If she cannot be this, I refuse to be in further contact with her associate or work with her.
We all have enough stress and negativity in our lives without unnecessary external players projecting their problems upon us.
If you feel like this or ever feel like this I hope this gives you permission to not put up with it anymore. You will be fine without them and their opportunity. In fact, it could be even more empowering if you turn down the opportunity if you financially can and obtain or create and even better opportunity for yourself.
I’m going to move on with my life and forget she ever existed because we should not allow ill intentioned people t occupy our minds rent free. I hope she becomes a warmer, more empathetic person and if this was just a circumstance based reaction to something terrible going on in her life. I hope that situation gets better and I also hope at some point she becomes a more conscious being and does not redirect her anger onto those who have nothing to do with the issues she is facing.
Thank you for reading and have a lovely day.
